There is a lie that the Devil himself schemes so incredibly well, to get us women -as a whole- to believe about ourselves. That we are not worthy! Do you ever feel unworthy of God's love? Unworthy to fully receive the love of others? Unworthy to go after dreams? Unworthy to be defined as beautiful, capable, or strong, or to be phenomenal at anything, much less parenting, marriage, friendship, work, business, teaching, keeping a house in order...ect? Well then my sweet sister, my dear friend, rest assured that you find yourself in good company because you are not alone in this! This is a deep rooted insecurity most women battle. Whatever it may be, you name it, the enemy wants us to believe it's ABOVE us. Getting us to believe this lie is all in order to accomplish one big purpose of his- to render us completely and entirely in-effective. As christians, as women, in whatever role or areas of life he is targeting.
We as women wear so many different 'hats' through out the course of even just one day. Woman, wife, mother, employee, care taker, daughter, friend, home maker, motivational speaker, chauffeur, maid, gardner, coach, counselor, teacher, student, nurse, problem solver, the list is truly endless! Each hat requires us to meet a specific need, all different from the last. And usually for someone other than ourselves. While that can be incrediably rewarding, if we're being honest...it can also be entirely draining! We end up feeling something similar to a Thanksgiving pie, giving out slices right and left to everyone around us until the pie is completely depleted- just gone. Leaving us to feel like we have nothing left to give. Especially when it comes to ourselves.
The 'Proverbs 31 Woman' comes to mind. Have you heard of her? Do you know her? Maybe you secretly hate her like I use to, because she resembles a picture of perfection that feels completely and utterly unattainable. She rises at dawn and her lamp does not go out at night… she is smart, witty, passionate, capable, frugal, always prepared, and a picture of strength! Her husband has full confidence in her and her children rise up and call her blessed. She's who we all WANT to be, STRIVE to be, but never quite measure up to. It's only after you learn that Proverbs 31 was actually written by a mother, TO A MAN (her son) as an illustrated description of a virtuous woman...that the tight grasp of high expectations starts to loosen it's grip on us. The virtuous woman is an allegorical character, not a real person. She is compilation of all the greatest skills and traits a christian woman could aspire to possess. And while there is profound wisdom and knowledge to be taken from Proverbs 31, what we usually get wrong is that perfection (if we could attain it) would somehow complete us or finally make us feel worthy! Thankfully, God didn't create us to be PERFECT! We are WORTHY, despite our imperfections. And because God's love is perfect, we don't have to be!
The good news is also that we have an unlimited power source when we feel we have been drained to empty. God can restore us to 'FULL' status again! 2 Corinthians 12:9-10 "“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, HE MAKES ME STRONG!"
Sisters, it's OK to admit that we don't have it all together! It's OK to admit that we don't do all areas of our life WELL! Or that we have weaknesses. There's freedom in that! It's OK to share that we don't have all the answers. Thankfully, we know someone who does! What meaning would our Savior, Jesus Christ, have.. if we didn't NEED Him? None. We can't do this life WELL in our own strength, we can try...but why don't we save ourselves the heartache and pain of trying?
When you realize that He is your power source, you become set free from the chains of striving, perfectionism, and the need to prove yourself to others. And that my friend, that's when all bets are off with the thief who comes only to steal, kill, and destroy US, OUR FAMILIES, OUR DREAMS, AND OUR IDENTITY! That's when God can start moving in BIG and BOLD ways in your life! That's when dreams you never could have imagined on your own start coming to pass! That's when life becomes a wild ride that you want to be on, even when you don't know what lies ahead because you no longer feel the need to have control over what was never really yours to control anyway. Your life!
I launched this website a little shy of 2 months ago. I'd be lying to you if I said that every day I wake up with full confidence that I am worthy or equipped to live out this very dream that I know God gave me. Most days I struggle to believe some of the words of encouragement I just shared with you about myself! The enemy tells me that I am just: __________ (fill in the blank). "Just a mom" (and most days probably not even a very good one). "Just a wife" who can't seem to bite her tongue as often as I probably should. "Just an average christian" that still makes many mistakes on the regular! "Just another aspiring writer/blogger" in a sea of many, that I should compare myself or my skill level to. He down plays any chance he gets, at who I am IN CHRIST JESUS! In order to assure that I would keep to myself, withhold, withdrawal, and live my life from a place of unworthiness and comparison. Jesus wants us to live from a place of identity in who HE says that we are! To join together with our sisters, to be each other's calvary! To remind one another of our worth, when the enemy says that we have none! To speak the TRUTH of our identity in Christ into our hearts and souls until we believe it! I encourage you, I challenge you, I JOIN WITH YOU to speak these truths BOLDLY into your life and the lives of the women around you today and every day after!
